The Antichrist and the Number "666"

Before the Second Coming of our Lord Jesus Christ, it was prophesied that the man of perdition shall come first. So many predictions of the end of the world failed because this is supposed to be one of the first and eminent signs that the end is coming near. The Lord Jesus Christ shall come only until all prophecies about the Last Seven Years of Daniel have been fulfilled.

Don't let anyone deceive you in any way, for that day will not come until the rebellion occurs and the man of lawlessness is revealed, the man doomed to destruction. He will oppose and will exalt himself over everything that is called God or is worshiped, so that he sets himself up in God's temple, proclaiming himself to be God (2 Thessalonians 2:2–4).

In the King James version, the "man of lawlessness" is the "man of perdition". Aptly so since he will be the Antichrist. He will destroy everything that has been set up by man. Laws and times will be changed, boundaries of nations will be removed. He will annihilate the peoples who oppose him. He will also destroy all known religions and will establish a new one with himself the new god.

The Antichrist shall have an evil prophet speaking in his behalf and proclaiming to the world to worship him. He shall perform miraculous signs like fire coming from heaven in full view of all men. Read Revelation 13:11–18. The Bible does not reveal where this false prophet will come from, but one thing sure is he will also come from the ancestry of Edom, from one of the Arab nations. His work will involve promoting a new foreign god all over the world with an iron hand. He shall work in partnership with the Antichrist with the ultimate goal of destroying the world physically and spiritually. The author believes this False Prophet is already with us, small but prophesied to grow in power, and none from the Christian world and the Western nation with all their military might will be able to stop him from his evil plans.

Note that the prophecies on the False Prophet are simply the reminiscence of King Nebuchadnezzar’s order to set up an image for all his constituents to worship (read Daniel 3). This time, it is even more forceful. The image itself has its own power to see and speak and monitor those who do not pay allegiance to the king. Those who disobey will be killed. No one can buy or sell and do business unless you are a registered citizen, meaning a follower of the Antichrist. It requires having a number of the beast printed or planted permanently on or in the forehead or hand. In the age of lasers and computers, that is actually coming to reality. Every man is identified and known by his number. A computer scanner may soon monitor every man by the number on his hand or on the forehead.

He also forced everyone, small and great, rich and poor, free and slave, to receive a mark on his right hand or on his forehead, so that no one could buy or sell unless he had the mark, which is the name of the beast or the number of his name.

This calls for wisdom. If anyone has insight, let him calculate the number of the beast, for it is man's number. His number is 666  (Revelation 13:16–18).

Why the number “666?" Many theologians scour books for clues and present many convincing research claims, but the answer is just in the Bible, in the book of Revelation itself.

Turn again to Revelation 17:10–11 and notice carefully:

They are also seven kings. Five have fallen, one is, the other has not yet come; but when he does come, he must remain for a little while. The beast who once was, and now is not, is an eighth king. He belongs to the seven and is going to his destruction. (Read also verse 8.)

Let us again imagine the strange beast vividly. The beast has seven heads, and each of the heads is a beast itself. In short, there are seven beasts combined into one big beast. The beast means a kingdom, and each of the heads of the beast is represented by a king, so there are supposed to be only seven kings for seven beasts since a kingdom cannot have more than one king at any given time. Five of those kings (heads) and their kingdoms had already fallen as mentioned above. One, during the time of invasion of Europe (or the lost Israel) is already reigning at the time of the start of the fulfillment of prophecy (one is)—he is the coming king of Iraq. The sixth king represents Assyria or King Shalmaneser. This future king will come from Nineveh, the capital of ancient Assyria which is now located in Iraq.

From you, [O Nineveh,] has one come forth who plots evil against the LORD and counsels wickedness (Nahum 1:11).

The fatal wound (read also Revelation 13:3 referring to one of the heads of the beast) stopped him for a while (once was, and now is not). But he shall return, as king of Babylon or like King Nebuchadnezzar—he shall invade Judah, now Israel. So the king of Babylon is the same Assyrian king healed from the fatal wound. He is the sixth and also the seventh. Now there’s still the last and the eighth king who will finally perish. How come when there are supposed to be only seven heads or kings? He is the beast “who once was and now is not.” This is still referring to the Assyrian king who once was alive and now fatally wounded but will rise again. Becoming the eighth king means to depict a different role—as an Egyptian pharaoh, the supreme evil, the great oppressor now ruling over Egypt (now USA) and the world. Now take note—he still belongs to the seven. Did you get it? The sixth, the seventh, and the eighth king are one and the same person. Should there have been another king, the ‘“other” of verse 11 would have been plural to complete the total of eighth. They are the same sixth king, the Assyrian king, wounded by the sword. He is the sixth king reigning in three successions, the sixth, sixth (seventh), and sixth (eighth). He is the Assyrian king, Babylonian king, and the Egyptian pharaoh ruling in succession. In short the “666.” He is the one who is the coming Antichrist who will rule the world, who plots evil against the Lord and who will counsel wickedness.

The prophecy in Revelation mentioned five fallen kings and the sixth through eighth (is) are still to come. The number of the beasts, “666” simply means the same king ruling in three successions: as Assyrian King, Babylonian King and lastly and the most cruel, as an Egyptian Pharaoh.

The five fallen kings are the rulers who had inflicted the worst physical sufferings on God’s chosen people, the Hebrews and the Jews. Scan the Bible and recent histories, for they are the wicked kings of the past. The Bible gives us no clue in regard to their identities, but this writer could only name probable suspects based on their unmatched biblical and historical record of sufferings they brought against the people of Israel. There were three before the birth of Jesus (BC) and two in Anno Domini (AD). They are:

1.   Pharaoh of Egypt who had brought the earliest suffering of the young, landless nation of Israel so that God through Moses led them out of Egypt;

2.   King Shalmaneser V of Assyria who conquered the Northern Kingdom or the House of Israel,

3.   King Nebuchadnezzar of Babylon who conquered the Southern Kingdom or the House of Judah,

4.   Titus Flavius of the Roman Empire who killed almost a million Jews and destroyed Jerusalem and the Holy Temple, and

5.   Adolf Hitler, the German dictator of World War II (Who would not know him as the butcher of the Jews?).

The number “six” is a man’s number since the first man, Adam , was created on the sixth day then Eve , the last soul God created. In the same way as “seventh” is God’s number, the Sabbath . Six means finality, completion of God’s work. The sixth day is the day before the Sabbath, the Lord’s day of rest. Adam was created to fulfill God’s plan, take care of the earth, and multiply. This time, it will be the opposite. The beast shall come in a charge to destroy God’s plan, destroy the earth, and annihilate many before the “Day of the Lord,” the seventh or Sabbath year.

The Deceiving Powers of the Antichrist

This topic is very important to give the readers ample warnings in order that the elect will not be swayed in faith when the time has come.

The Antichrist will have enormous power to consummate all his plans, yes, even to destroy the elect. He will indeed succeed in everything he does. He shall obtain black power or power from the devil. Pretty soon the Antichrist will declare himself to be god and shall dictate to all to worship him. Yes, even the elect are in danger of believing in him. Be careful and be alert that all these are bound to happen so as only to fulfill the prophecies:

As I watched, this horn was waging war against the saints and defeating them (Daniel 7:21).

The saints will be handed over to him for a time, times and half a time (Daniel 7:25).

He will destroy the mighty men and the holy people (Daniel 8:24).

The Wound Is Healed

One of the heads of the beast seemed to have had a fatal wound, but the fatal wound had been healed (Revelation 13:3).

Here we see the same strange beast of Daniel 7 whose one of the heads is fatally wounded and yet healed. Obviously, in the manner of writing, the Antichrist is the wounded head. What does it mean, and why is it so important that this wound shall be written down in scriptures repeatedly? It should have an important meaning for all of us to understand!

The fall of Europe and that is under the hands of the symbolic “Assyrian king.” And yet we are not supposed to fear the “Assyrian king” who was predestined to conquer the continental Europe. The greater threat to Christians is the fall of Israel and USA under the symbolic “Babylonian king” and later as the cruel “pharaoh” ruling America and the entire world. Remember that the Antichrist will rule the world as Babylonian king and at the time close to the end as symbolic pharaoh to Israel and the Christians to fulfill the confirmation of the covenant. Only when the ruler steps on American soil that he will complete his evil mission within 1,260 days. After that, Jesus will come. Read chapters 4 and 5 of the book, "The Omega Days" for more details.

This draws parallel with the original Assyrian king, King Sennacherib. He had planned to attack Jerusalem after taking over the other cities of Judah. He insulted the God of Judah and made mockery of their defenses. Through God’s intervention, his army was annihilated by an angel by night within their own encampment, and Jerusalem was spared. King Sennacherib eventually was killed by his sons. Read 2 Chronicles 32:16–21 and whole story from verse 1 to 22.

Sennacherib's officers spoke further against the LORD God and against his servant Hezekiah.  The king also wrote letters insulting the LORD, the God of Israel, and saying this against him: "Just as the gods of the peoples of the other lands did not rescue their people from my hand, so the god of Hezekiah will not rescue his people from my hand." Then they called out in Hebrew to the people of Jerusalem who were on the wall, to terrify them and make them afraid in order to capture the city. They spoke about the God of Jerusalem as they did about the gods of the other peoples of the world — the work of men's hands.

King Hezekiah and the prophet Isaiah son of Amoz cried out in prayer to heaven about this.  And the LORD sent an angel, who annihilated all the fighting men and the leaders and officers in the camp of the Assyrian king. So he withdrew to his own land in disgrace. And when he went into the temple of his god, some of his sons cut him down with the sword.

This is the particular instant of the “one is, the other has not yet come,” Revelation 13:10, stated above when the Assyrian king had been “stopped by an angel” after he conquered Europe and was about to invade Israel and then USA.

The original Assyrian king actually died. Will the Antichrist die also from the divine intervention? Yes. Read this prophecy in Revelation 17:8:

The beast, which you saw, once was, now is not, and will come up out of the Abyss and go to his destruction. The inhabitants of the earth whose names have not been written in the book of life from the creation of the world will be astonished when they see the beast, because he once was, now is not, and yet will come.

The “abyss” is another term for a “bottomless pit,” a symbol meaning grave or death. The grave or death is eternal darkness—which is why it is termed as “bottomless pit.” The word pit is used many times in the Bible meaning grave or death. Read Psalm 30:3.

O LORD, you brought me up from the grave; you spared me from going down into the pit.

The same scenario should happen to confirm the covenant. We may never know how it will happen this time, but certainly, the Antichrist will be stopped by divine power and get killed upon his next attempt to conquer the heart of Israel after the fall of Europe. Such a defeat and death will be only temporary. This temporary setback shall be his fatal wound since he will resurrect as a king possessed by Satan. Beware about this event when it happens. It will bring a great delusion to all the world because the resurrected "Assyrian King" will claim he is more powerful than the God of Israel because he was killed by His divine power but lived again. The events were written and it is a pattern of the events that came to pass way back during the fall of Jerusalem. It should be repeated to fulfill the prophecies and to confirm the covenant as written by Daniel.

Now back to the question: who is the other to come?

After the resurrection of the fallen symbolic Assyrian king, he will immediately proceed to attack Jerusalem now armed with the power of the Devil. Israel will finally fall. At that point the king will assume the role of a Babylonian king since the Israel we now know is actually the Kingdom of Judah that fell in the hands of King Nebuchadnezzar. Many think that this attack against Israel will already be the Battle of Armageddon; however, this is not yet the time for that final war. The Battle of Armageddon will occur towards the closing of the Day of the Lord. That will be the final event prior to the Millennium. That final battle will involve Gog and Magog of which the Antichrist will go to his destruction.

The God of the Antichrist

The Antichrist is the embodiment of Satan who is fighting against all modern Israel, Christians and other religions. In order for him to unify the world, he will establish a new religion, a god unknown to his fathers as Daniel prophesied in 11:37–39:

“He will show no regard for the gods of his fathers or for the one desired by women, nor will he regard any god, but will exalt himself above them all. Instead of them, he will honor a god of fortresses; a god unknown to his fathers he will honor with gold and silver, with precious stones and costly gifts. He will attack the mightiest fortresses with the help of a foreign god and will greatly honor those who acknowledge him. . .”

The god, whatever it is, is a new unknown god that all religions are forced to join. Satan is living inside him and doing many miracles and wonders so that many people will easily believe in him and worship him. He will personify one of the gods of ancient Egypt since he will be ruling as a pharaoh over America and the world. Let us find out what else the Antichrist can do to entice many to believe him.

His Power over Death

It is clear from the above verse that the Antichrist shall enter the abyss or dies but shall resurrect “and yet will come.” His resurrection shall become like an imitation of Christ’s resurrection—possessing a body that will supposedly not die anymore. Rest assured, however, that his resurrection will only be short and temporary as it is written, “. . . and is going to his destruction” (Revelation 17:11). It is actually Satan living inside the resurrected Assyrian king. Satan is the origin of sin and death. He can reward everyone who will worship him with “everlasting life.” Can you imagine multitudes drawn to him because of his reward of “eternal life” to those who believe in and follow him? Only those whose names were not written in the Book of Life are destined to fall as written. The book of Isaiah tells us of the Antichrist’s and his follower’s power over death. Read:

You [Antichrist and followers] boast, “We have entered into a covenant with death, with the grave we have made an agreement. When an overwhelming scourge sweeps by, it cannot touch us, for we have made a lie our refuge and falsehood our hiding place” (Isaiah 28:15).

This tells us that the Antichrist will actually die of divine intervention but shall be resurrected because of Satan’s power over death; after all, death is the product of sin, and Satan is the father of sin. Satan, the devil has a power over death. In Hebrew 2:14–15 it says:

Since the children have flesh and blood, he too [Jesus] shared in their humanity so that by his death he might destroy him who holds the power of death — that is, the devil—

Sure enough, he shall claim to be the real “Messiah” because he “resurrected” and can no longer die. Then he shall promise eternal physical life to those who follow him. Beware of this power! Let the readers be forewarned about his great trickery. His reward of eternal life is only physical and not spiritual. They can still die from superior power of God. Still, many will believe him and will rejoice, for at last the fountain of youth is found and they can freely have it, but with dire consequences. When the Lord Jesus Christ comes, their suffering will be worse than death. Those who will be deceived shall not die indeed, but later, those followers shall seek death but will never find it (Revelation 9:6).

During those days men will seek death, but will not find it; they will long to die, but death will elude them.

So the evil king shall come back from the dead, and his resurrection is the healing of the wound (Revelation 13:3). The world thought he was finished but—

When they feel secure, he will destroy many and take his stand against the Prince of princes. Yet he will be destroyed, but not by human power (Daniel 8:25).

He has reason to believe he can defeat even the angels. He was “killed” by divine power but resurrected. It is now Satan living in the body of the “dead” mortal modern day Assyrian King—he shall exercise the full power of the devil. Even the world will think that he is greater than God, and therefore, they worship and love him; in fact, they shall all believe he is the real “God,” the true “Messiah” who gives hope and everlasting life. The world shall be lost by this powerful deception. Again, be very, very careful! The Bible has adequate warning for all Christians.

His Power to Control Minds and over Nature

Satan can control people’s minds, and he can control nature as he had displayed in the book of Job. But those powers are through God’s permission. However, believers should not fear since Satan has no power over Christians as long as we resist. 1Peter 5:8–9 has this warning to all Christians:

Be self–controlled and alert. Your enemy the devil prowls around like a roaring lion looking for someone to devour. Resist him, standing firm in the faith, because you know that your brothers throughout the world are undergoing the same kind of sufferings.

For the readers, read carefully how Satan can have tremendous power over sinners and over nature.

Job 1:9–22:

Does Job fear God for nothing? Satan replied. “Have you not put a hedge around him and his household and everything he has? You have blessed the work of his hands, so that his flocks and herds are spread throughout the land. But stretch out your hand and strike everything he has, and he will surely curse you to your face.”

The LORD said to Satan, “Very well, then, everything he has is in your hands, but on the man himself do not lay a finger.”

Then Satan went out from the presence of the LORD.

One day when Job’s sons and daughters were feasting and drinking wine at the oldest brother’s house, a messenger came to Job and said, “The on were plowing and the donkeys were grazing nearby, and the Sabeans attacked and carried them off. They put the servants to the sword, and I am the only one who has escaped to tell you!”

While he was still speaking, another messenger came and said, “The fire of God fell from the sky and burned up the sheep and the servants, and I am the only one who has escaped to tell you!”

While he was still speaking, another messenger came and said, “The Chaldeans formed three raiding parties and swept down on your camels and carried them off. They put the servants to the sword, and I am the only one who has escaped to tell you!”

While he was still speaking, yet another messenger came and said, “Your sons and daughters were feasting and drinking wine at the oldest brother’s house, when suddenly a mighty wind swept in from the desert and struck the four corners of the house. It collapsed on them and they are dead, and I am the only one who has escaped to tell you!”

At this, Job got up and tore his robe and shaved his head. Then he fell to the ground in worship and said:

“Naked I came from my mother’s womb, and naked I will depart.

The LORD gave and the LORD has taken away; may the name of the LORD be praised.”

In all this, Job did not sin by charging God with wrongdoing.

First, Satan controlled the minds of the Sabeans to attack and killed Job’s servants and took away all his on and donkeys. Second, he caused fire to fall from the sky and burned the sheep and servants. Third, he again controlled the minds of the Chaldeans then took all Job’s camels, and killed more servants. Finally, he commanded the winds, so it blew hard on the building where his sons and daughters were feasting. The building collapsed, crushing them all to death. If Satan can do this just to test one man through God’s permission, think what he can do if God gives him authority over all Christians—“The saints will be handed over to him [by God] for a time, times half a time (Daniel 7:25). Continue reading the book of Job , and you will find that Satan has control over Job’s health. He caused Job to suffer with boils covering his body from head to toe, so severe that only God had prevented him from dying.

Also in Revelation 13:13,

And he performed great and miraculous signs, even causing fire to come down from heaven to earth in full view of men.

He will perform great miracles that only God was doing in the Scriptures. There shall be a tremendous deception, for the devil knows he has but a little time. Perhaps many of the borderline Christians will turn away from faith as Jesus Christ  Himself warned “if that were possible” (Matthew 24:24). He will draw great multitudes to him in guise of “good” deeds, miracles, and promise of “everlasting life.” It is written for all of us so that we will not be deceived of this trickery.

The whole world was astonished and followed the beast. Men worshipped the dragon [devil] because he had given authority to the beast [Antichrist ], and they also worshipped the beast and asked, “Who is like the beast? Who can make war against him?” (Revelation 13:3–4).

Conquest of the rest of continents will be sweeping. Perhaps the Antichrist  will not need wars to conquer nations, leaving the most economies and infrastructures intact. Many shall simply submit to him.

The Antichrist  will not hesitate to use weapons of mass destruction to annihilate cities and nations who are against him.

As one reaches into a nest, so my hand reached for the wealth of the nations; as men gather abandoned eggs, so I gathered all the countries; not one flapped a wing, or opened its mouth to chirp (Isaiah 10:14).

He “will greatly honor those who acknowledge him” (Daniel 11:39). However, he will not hesitate to use weapons of mass destruction against the nations who refuse to submit to him. As the Bible says, he will make places a desert—maybe nuclear weapons? There shall be wars and destruction that is unequalled from the beginning of time.

The man who made the world a desert, who overthrew its cities (Isaiah 14:17).

Read also Isaiah 6:11.

He will push through with his occupation of Israel, America, and the rest of the world with ease. Armed with the devil’s power over death, the Antichristpresumed he can defeat even God. America, the eagle, is now alone, and how can a sinful nation defeat the father of sin and whose soldiers will not die?

But in the last day, the Lord Jesus Christ will come and liberate the world of this man of perdition. He shall meet his end and no one will help him.

Yet he will come to his end, and no one will help him (Daniel 11:45).

Then Satan, the Devil who devil-possessed and resurrected the symbolic Assyrian king will be imprisoned and be kept in the Abyss [Bottomless Pit] for a thousand years, after which he will be finally thrown into the lake of fire which is hell.

And the devil, who deceived them, was thrown into the lake of burning sulfur, where the beast [Antichrist] and the false prophet had been thrown. They will be tormented day and night for ever and ever (Revelation 20:10).

Why is it that history seems to repeat itself? We will study next time.
