The Battle of Armageddon – The Great Supper of God

After the Great Exodus, all the elect will find their way to Jerusalem, the original Promised Land. The thousands of mile journey will take months by foot to travel. There they will resettle and find peace until they will find out later that they were being followed and then surrounded by the army of the Antichrist.

It will still be dark all over the earth. Before the Antichrist knew it, all the chosen ones by then have already arrived in the Promised Land peacefully resettled but "without walls" or utterly defenseless. He will do the same as the pharaoh of old Egypt did – he will devise evil scheme, pursue the Christians and will intend to kill them all.

"'This is what the Sovereign LORD says: On that day thoughts will come into your [Antichrist] mind and you will devise an evil scheme. You will say, "I will invade a land of unwalled villages; I will attack a peaceful and unsuspecting people — all of them living without walls and without gates and bars. I will plunder and loot and turn my hand against the resettled ruins and the people gathered from the nations, rich in livestock and goods, living at the center of the land" (Ezek 38:10-12).

For the final time, the Antichrist will muster his remaining armies mostly coming from Asia. It will be the largest display of troops since the beginning of time. He will use all the most destructive weapons available at his disposal to destroy the defenseless Jerusalem. However, none will prevail against God's chosen people. The Battle of Armageddon is the culmination of the Day of the Lord, His vengeance against the enemies of God. It will take place a day before the start of the Millennium.

From the East, the Antichrist and his army will follow the elect towards Jerusalem to destroy them.

The Antichrist will use all the most destructive weapons available at his disposal to destroy the defenseless Jerusalem. However, none will prevail against God's chosen people.

The 7th and last trumpet call

The elect who were gathered from many nations and have arrived in Jerusalem from long journeys through the Great Exodus will be protected by Jesus Christ our God, and meet Him in the air. This is the 7th trumpet call, the event of the Second Coming, the signal of the Battle of Armageddon, the the final Seventh Trumpet and Third Rapture, or the Great Harvest referred to in 1 Thess 4:16–17 and Matt 24:30–31.

For the Lord himself will come down from heaven, with a loud command, with the voice of the archangel and with the trumpet call of God, and the dead in Christ will rise first. After that, we who are still alive and are left will be caught up together with them in the clouds to meet the Lord in the air. And so we will be with the Lord forever.

The Third Rapture is the same as the final harvest time when the Lord Jesus shall finally send forth His angels with a loud trumpet call to gather all His elect. The account above is the same as the event below as foretold by Jesus Himself.

At that time the sign of the Son of Man will appear in the sky, and all the nations of the earth will mourn. They will see the Son of Man coming on the clouds of the sky, with power and great glory. And he will send his angels with a loud trumpet call, and they will gather his elect from the four winds, from one end of the heavens to the other (Matt 24:30–31).

We must take note that this is the only time and manner that Christ will descend and appear to all men. Prior to this, there is absolutely no sign at all about Jesus Christ appearing to men at any place since all Christians will be subject to the Antichrist and seemed forsaken. This is the very moment of the Second Coming . Many in those days will be misled about His appearing, and that is why the Bible warned us repeatedly not to believe in false christs (Matt 24:26) and encouraged us to wait (Isa 40:31). Do not even believe of a rapture occurring during the Great Tribulation like people disappearing mysteriously since this idea and belief will be used by Satan to deceive many. Read the topic on "Is The Popular and Traditional Rapture Doctrine Biblical?" for more details. Just imagine if people begin to actually disappear not knowing that this is a deceit from Antichrist who will appear as false christ to many and invite people toward him. Beware. No Jesus Christ will appear prior to the Seventh Trumpet, and this is the only manner how He will come again:

They were looking intently up into the sky as he was going, when suddenly two men dressed in white stood beside them. “Men of Galilee,” they said, “why do you stand here looking into the sky? This same Jesus, who has been taken from you into heaven, will come back in the same way you have seen him go into heaven” (Acts 1:10–11).

Jesus Christ also warned us that He will not show up until the day He promised. Read and remember this passage from Luke 17:22–23.

Then he said to his disciples, “The time is coming when you will long to see one of the days of the Son of Man, but you will not see it. Men will tell you, ‘There he is!’ or ‘Here he is!’ Do not go running off after them.

Where there is a dead body, there the vultures will gather

The Lord Jesus provided us with a clue on where those taken in second rapture will be leading to and what to expect later in that place.

I tell you, on that night two people will be in one bed; one will be taken and the other left. Two women will be grinding grain together; one will be taken and the other left."

"Where, Lord?" they asked.

He replied, "Where there is a dead body, there the vultures will gather"
(Luke 17:34-37 also in Matt 24:28).

When Jesus told the apostles that two people will be in one bed; one will be taken and the other left and two women will be grinding grain together; one will be taken and the other left, He was actually telling them of the Great Exodus of which it will lead them to a place of the Battle of Armageddon. So when the apostles asked Him to where they will be taken, Jesus answered with a clue--the clue that reveals who the true Christ is and when He will appear to all nations. The survivors of the Great Tribulation will be taken away into a safe place where they will later see dead people and vultures. Why?

The vultures are the sign of Jesus Christ about the time and the situation at the time of His coming. The vultures also indicate where those in the last days Exodus will be taken to. There will be lots of vultures feasting on the dead armies of the Antichrist, the aftermath of the Battle of Armageddon. The Book of Revelation calls it the "Great Supper of God" (Rev 19:17–18, 21).

That's because after the long journey through the Great Exodus to Jerusalem, the elect will find themselves under attack by the armies of the Antichrist who followed them. Right there in Jerusalem, the Lord Jesus Christ will defend them. That is a day of great slaughter of God’s enemies, the Battle of Armageddon. This is to repeat history of which the Egyptians chased the Hebrews and followed them through the divided Red Sea (read the "Confirmation of the Covenant" for explanation why history will repeat itself). But this time, the enemies of the children of God will meet their end from the Lord of lords Himself, Jesus Christ. That time, the battle belongs to the Lord.

The Great Supper of God

Now think of this: how can all nations, both the elect and the lost, be able to see the sign of the Son of Man in the sky and the descending Jesus Christ among the clouds? Surely this could not happen unless all nations are gathered together in one place. Also consider that the number of all survivors at that time will only be few that it won't require not much space for all men to occupy. Read also Ezek 38:23. This is the reason why the Lord will gather all His elect from four winds (the harvest), raising from the dead those who died in the Lord first (John 6:39, 40, 44, 54; 1 Thess 4:16). That is the first resurrection; those who will be raised from the dead will no longer die (Rev 20:5-6). God will also gather the enemies that make war against the elect in one place so that all, everyone, all nations either saved or lost, will witness His mighty power and salvation. And right there, the elect will meet the Lord in the air in glorified bodies, well secured from the enemy. Afterward, great is the devastation of the enemies. Then the vultures will gather to eat their carcasses. That’s why Jesus gave us the sign of the vultures because it will be a very memorable event for the heavenly hosts and the entire generations to come. It will be called the “Great Supper of God.” Read in the book of Revelation,

And I saw an angel standing in the sun, who cried in a loud voice to all the birds flying in midair, “Come, gather together for the great supper of God, so that you may eat the flesh of kings, generals, and mighty men, of horses and their riders, and the flesh of all people, free and slave, small and great... and all the birds gorged themselves on their flesh” (Rev 19:17–18, 21).

The prophet Ezekiel gave us the details:

Son of man, this is what the Sovereign LORD says: Call out to every kind of bird and all the wild animals: “Assemble and come together from all around to the sacrifice I am preparing for you, the great sacrifice on the mountains of Israel . There you will eat flesh and drink blood. You will eat the flesh of mighty men and drink the blood of the princes of the earth as if they were rams and lambs, goats and bulls – all of them fattened animals from Bashan” (Ezek 39:17–18).

Gog and Magog

Who are the enemies who will attack Jerusalem before the Second Coming? The book of Ezekiel identifies the enemies, those people and kings under the army of the devil. They are the seeds of Gog and Magog (read the full story in Ezek 38, 39).

Son of man, set your face against Gog, of the land of Magog, the chief prince of Meshech and Tubal; prophesy against him. This is what will happen in that day: When Gog attacks the land of Israel, my hot anger will be aroused, declares the Sovereign LORD. In my zeal and fiery wrath I declare that at that time there shall be a great earthquake in the land of Israel. The fish of the sea, the birds of the air, the beasts of the field, every creature that moves along the ground, and all the people on the face of the earth will tremble at my presence. The mountains will be overturned, the cliffs will crumble and every wall will fall to the ground. I will summon a sword against Gog on all my mountains, declares the Sovereign LORD. Every man’s sword will be against his brother. I will execute judgment upon him with plague and bloodshed; I will pour down torrents of rain, hailstones and burning sulfur on him and on his troops and on the many nations with him. And so I will show my greatness and my holiness, and I will make myself known in the sight of many nations. Then they will know that I am the LORD (Ezek 38:2, 18–23).

The primary purpose of the gathering of the enemies in Armageddon is for the Lord Jesus Christ to manifest Himself before all men as Ezekiel puts it, "in the sight of many nations." This is the only time that they will see the Creator, the one they have pierced, the God in whom they did not believe, the God they treated as the enemy for generations. It was too late though for many that they were already overtaken by His Coming. Jesus Christ had warned us many times not to be caught unaware of this time. We should always be prepared.

Magog was one of the sons of Japheth, one of the three sons of Noah, the other two being Shem and Ham. Gog was identified as the chief prince of Meshech and Tubal (Ezek 38:2–3). Magog, Meshech, and Tubal were all sons of Japheth. They were maritime peoples (Gen 10:2–5). Being maritime peoples, they were the first to colonize the coast of Mediterranean Sea. They traveled by sea instead of by land and therefore had the advantage of being able to reach the farthest and yet undiscovered settlements throughout the globe. They are probably today the people of the Far East, South, and Central Asia. Some of them may still be along the Mediterranean coast. Today, they are the nations living in the “safety of the coastlands” (Ezek 39:6) so a clue here is these are the people that least affected by wars and disasters due to their distance from areas of conflicts. Despite the winter, darkness, and afflictions from God, these men survived perhaps because they still possessed the covenant with death (Isa 28:15) and to fulfill the torment of their end.

Gog, prince of Magog, is most likely the Communist China, the East’s most formidable nation with armed forces of over three million.

Some who are already familiar with the events about the Day of the Lord will realize that God’s fury is always directed against the traditional enemies of Israel such as Edom, Moab, Ammon, Philistia, and also Egypt, the thorns and briers. All of which had a bloodline from Shem and Ham through Abraham. During the days of the patriarchs, the descendants of Japheth may have left early their land of ancestry, the Mesopotamia Valley, and then eventually settled in the lands as far as they can sail. Now only the line of Japheth is not yet accounted for in prophecies in the last days until they plan evil against God’s elect.

The kings and the armies of Asia under the command of the devil will gather in the valley that is called by different names. In Hebrew it is Armageddon; in the book of Joel, it is the Valley of Jehoshaphat (Joel 3:2, 12), named after one of the righteous kings of Judah . Some simply call it Valley of Megiddo, a valley around fifty kilometers north of Jerusalem. Nobody knows for sure the exact site.

In the early days, King Josiah challenged Pharaoh Neco of Egypt who was on his way to help the King of Assyria to fight King Nebuchadnezzar of Babylon at Carchemish. Since Pharaoh Neco was in a rush, he made a shortcut and trespassed through the territory of Judah. King Josiah misinterpreted the haste thinking he was being invaded. King Neco met Pharaoh Neco at Megiddo and there, King Josiah was wounded and later died in Jerusalem. Eventually, Pharaoh Neco and Assyria were defeated by King Nebuchadnezzar.

Read the complete story in 2 Kings 23:29–30; 2 Chron 35: 20–25; and Jer 46:2. That valley was also called later as Armageddon which is to become a place of a great battle in the last days. In this battle, Jesus Christ Himself will be fighting for His people.
Then I saw three evil spirits that looked like frogs; they came out of the mouth of the dragon, out of the mouth of the beast and out of the mouth of the false prophet. They are spirits of demons performing miraculous signs, and they go out to the kings
of the whole world, to gather them for the battle on the great day of God Almighty...

Then they gathered the kings together to the place that in Hebrew is called Armageddon (Rev 16:13–14, 16).

As mentioned above in Ezek 38: 20, there will be a great earthquake during this time. This earthquake is so great that mountains will fall and hills crumble. All man–made structures will fall to the ground. However the people of God will be protected from this horrifying earthquake and wrath of God. The feeblest of Israel will be like David all Israel or House of David will be like God.

This is the traditional place where the Battle of Armageddon will take place, the Valley of Megiddo. However, we can never be sure of the exact location of this prophetic place.

Listen, I tell you a mystery: We will not all sleep, but we will all be changed – in a flash, in the twinkling of an eye, at the last trumpet. For the trumpet will sound, the dead will be raised imperishable, and we will be changed. For the perishable must clothe itself with the imperishable, and the mortal with immortality (1 Cor 15:51–53).

"We will be like God, like the Angel of the LORD" - the transformation to imperishable bodies

What is the better protection that God can give us during the day of God’s wrath against the enemy? This prophecy is the ultimate protection, a great reward for those who have endured to the end! He will transform us to become like Him, to become imperishable. Everyone who have waited and have arrived in Jerusalem will be transformed to glorified bodies as prophesied by Paul.

1 Thess 4:16–17 provides more information about this protection. As the Lord Jesus is coming down, we will meet Him in the air together with the risen dead in Christ. And so the earth is completely empty of Christians while Jesus Christ is waging His war against the enemy. Why do we have to meet the Lord in the air? This is also to fulfill the prophecies about the saved to become like David, and the whole nation will be like God and also His Angels hovering in the clouds.

On that day the LORD will shield those who live in Jerusalem, so that the feeblest among them will be like David, and the house of David will be like God, like the Angel of the LORD going before them. On that day I will set out to destroy all the nations that attack Jerusalem (Zech 12:8–9).

This description of the new nation of Israel is likened to God Himself, like also an Angel that went before Israel’s army during their conquest of the enemies in Canaan. Read how it was during those time of Joshua's conquest of nations:

My angel will go ahead of you and bring you into the land of the Amorites, Hittites, Perizzites, Canaanites, Hivites and Jebusites, and I will wipe them out (Ex 23:23).

Now go, lead the people to the place I spoke of, and my angel will go before you. However, when the time comes for me to punish, I will punish them for their sin." (Ex 32:34)

I will send an angel before you and drive out the Canaanites, Amorites, Hittites, Perizzites, Hivites and Jebusites (Ex 33:2).

That means they will just be hovering overhead, in the sky. In like manner, the saved will just be lifted up in the clouds of the sky overlooking the defeat of the enemies. And therefore, this is how all nations will be able to see the greatness and holiness of God.

And so I will show my greatness and my holiness, and I will make myself known in the sight of many nations. Then they will know that I am the LORD (Ezek 38:23).

This is the "rapture" being mentioned in 1 Thess 4:16–17. This is the true interpretation how our transformation is going to be like in the end.

Those who are in Jerusalem will weep when they shall see the glory of Jesus Christ in the sky. No, this is not the tears of joy but tears of mourning as for the loss of a firstborn son. Let us continue reading the prophecy from Zechariah.

“And I will pour out on the house of David and the inhabitants of Jerusalem a spirit of grace and supplication. They will look on me, the one they have pierced, and they will mourn for him as one mourns for an only child, and grieve bitterly for him as one grieves for a firstborn son. On that day the weeping in Jerusalem will be great, like the weeping of Hadad Rimmon in the plain of Megiddo. The land will mourn, each clan by itself, with their wives by themselves: the clan of the house of David and their wives, the clan of the house of Nathan and their wives, the clan of the house of Levi and their wives, the clan of Shimei and their wives, and all the rest of the clans and their wives" (Zech 12:10–14, read also Matt 24:30).

The Battle is the Lord's

Afterward, after taking all His elect into Himself, Jesus Christ will ride on His white horse and attack the enemies. The fallen enemies in the Battle of Armageddon will be so many. Their weapons alone will be used as fuel by the elect for seven years (Ezek 39:9), and it will take seven months for the House of Israel to bury the dead in order to cleanse the land (verse 12).

I have trodden the winepress alone; from the nations no one was with me. I trampled them in my anger and trod them down in my wrath; their blood spattered my garments, and I stained all my clothing. For the day of vengeance was in my heart, and the year of my redemption has come (Isaiah 63:3–4).

The angel swung his sickle on the earth, gathered its grapes and threw them into the great winepress of God’s wrath. They were trampled in the winepress outside the city, and blood flowed out of the press, rising as high as the horses’ bridles for a distance of 1,600 stadia (Rev 14:19–20).

He is dressed in a robe dipped in blood, and his name is the Word of God. The armies of heaven were following him, riding on white horses and dressed in fine linen, white and clean. Out of his mouth comes a sharp sword with which to strike down the nations. “He will rule them with an iron scepter.” He treads the winepress of the fury of the wrath of God Almighty (Rev 19:13–15).

That is how the Second Coming will be – a time of harvest, a time of mourning for the one they have pierced, and the time of resurrection of the dead in Christ – and those who will still be alive by then will meet the Lord in the air. His Second coming is also a terrible sight to the enemies, the Battle of Armageddon – the Great Supper of God and the defeat of the Antichrist and Gog and Magog.

Behold, He will come like a thief in the night (Matthew 24:43). Read further:

"At that time the sign of the Son of Man will appear in the sky, and all the nations of the earth will mourn. They will see the Son of Man coming on the clouds of the sky, with power and great glory" (Matt 24:30).

“Behold, I come like a thief! Blessed is he who stays awake and keeps his clothes with him, so that he may not go naked and be shamefully exposed.” Then they gathered the kings together to the place that in Hebrew is called Armageddon. The seventh angel poured out his bowl into the air, and out of the temple came a loud voice from the throne, saying, “It is done!” Then there came flashes of lightning, rumblings, peals of thunder and a severe earthquake. No earthquake like it has ever occurred since man has been on earth, so tremendous was the quake. The great city split into three parts, and the cities of the nations collapsed. God remembered Babylon the Great and gave her the cup filled with the wine of the fury of his wrath (Rev 16:15–19).

It is done! The Millennium

Yes, it is done, Lord! It is complete! Your plan on earth is done, and the power of your blood has accomplished all things. Now it is very clear that His Second Coming will be the events of harvest of the earth and the great battle against His enemies in Armageddon. That is the second fall of the Kingdom of Babylon. The Antichrist will die and resurrect after a thousand years.

And I saw an angel coming down out of heaven, having the key to the Abyss [death] and holding in his hand a great chain. He seized the dragon, that ancient serpent, who is the devil, or Satan, and bound him for a thousand years. He threw him into the Abyss, and locked and sealed it over him, to keep him from deceiving the nations anymore until the thousand years were ended. After that, he must be set free for a short time (Rev 20:1–3).

After all the enemies are defeated, Christians with glorified bodies who are in the sky will descend to the ground to reign with Jesus Christ. The House of David will be re-established and King David will once again become the king of Israel. This is finally the answer of the apostles’ question in Acts 1:6 more than 2000 years ago:

So when they met together, they asked him, “Lord, are you at this time going to restore the kingdom to Israel?”

Jesus Christ did not give a direct answer except to be filled with the Holy Spirit and fulfill the Great Commission first. This is the time they were waiting for. This is the time all believers have been waiting for. All Christians will possess the nations. This is the true fulfillment of the promises to the patriarchs – to Abraham, Isaac, Jacob and Ephraim and Manasseh. Then there will be peace and worldwide rule of Jesus Christ for a thousand years we call The Millennium. After the Millennium, Satan along with Gog and Magog will come again to attack the people of God but they will be thrown immediately into the lake of fire to be tormented forever (Rev 20: 7-10).

Soon after that, God will wipe away the tears from all faces and He will swallow up death forever.

On this mountain he will destroy the shroud that enfolds all peoples, the sheet that covers all nations; he will swallow up death forever. The Sovereign LORD will wipe away the tears from all faces; he will remove the disgrace of his people from all the earth. The LORD has spoken (Isa 25:7–8).

Be one of those who belong to Christ and rule with Him for a thousand years and beyond.
