The Day of the Lord

The Day of the Lord, the seventh year, is the last year of the last seven years of the prophet Daniel. The first six years is the time of “Jacob’s Trouble”—famine, pestilence, wars, and the rule of the Antichrist or the widely known Great Tribulation. Read Where Are We Now? What To Expect? for time sequence in the last seven years. Like the seventh day as the Sabbath day of rest, the seventh year is also the Sabbath Year, the rest for the Lord or simply, the Day of the Lord. It actually lasts for one year. One day in prophecies is equivalent to one year.

Isa 34:8
For the LORD has a day of vengeance, a year of retribution, to uphold Zion’s cause.

Also in Isaiah 63:4,

For the day of vengeance was in my heart, and the year of my redemption has come.

The Day of the Lord is even more terrifying than the Great Tribulation. These are two different times. The tribulation period covers a time span of six years, and within that six years, there are 1,260 days, the reign of the evil ruler of the New World Order. This evil ruler disguised as the “Messiah” is one that the Bible calls the Antichrist. The apostle John mentioned the common and many antichrists that appeared even during his time. Read 1 John 2:18, 22; 4:3; and 2 John 7:7. However, the antichrist in the last days was specified by Paul as the son of perdition in NKJV, or son of lawlessness in NIV who is doomed to destruction.

2 Thess 2:2–4
Don't let anyone deceive you in any way, for that day will not come until the rebellion occurs and the man of lawlessness is revealed, the man doomed to destruction. He will oppose and will exalt himself over everything that is called God or is worshiped, so that he sets himself up in God's temple, proclaiming himself to be God

The Bible warned that it is better for us to experience the wrath of the Antichrist in the tribulation period rather than the wrath of God.

Amos 5:18–20
Woe to you who long for the day of the LORD! Why do you long for the day of the LORD? That day will be darkness, not light. It will be as though a man fled from a lion only to meet a bear, as though he entered his house and rested his hand on the wall only to have a snake bite him. Will not the day of the LORD be darkness, not light—pitch–dark, without a ray of brightness?.

Read also in Joel 2:1:

Blow the trumpet in Zion; sound the alarm on my holy hill. Let all who live in the land tremble, for the day of the LORD is coming. It is close at hand—a day of darkness and gloom, a day of clouds and blackness.

What to expect in the Day of the Lord?

  1. The Two Witnesses shall be resurrected

Rev 11:11-12
11 But after the three and a half days a breath of life from God entered them [two witnesses], and they stood on their feet, and terror struck those who saw them. 12 Then they heard a loud voice from heaven saying to them, "Come up here." And they went up to heaven in a cloud, while their enemies looked on.

The Two Witnesses are the two prophets who will be prepare the way of the Lord before He comes. They are Moses and Elijah, same prophets who appeared to Jesus during His transfiguration (Matt 17:4). They will be killed by the Antichrist. Read Is the Gay Pride Ever Mentioned in the Bible? for few details about these Two Witnesses. However, after three days, they will be resurrected which also signals the start of the Day of the Lord.

  1. A huge space objects will strike Earth

Rev 8:8
8 The second angel sounded his trumpet, and something like a huge mountain , all ablaze, was thrown into the sea.

Rev 8:10-11
10 The third angel sounded his trumpet, and a great star, blazing like a torch, fell from the sky on a third of the rivers and on the springs of water— 11 the name of the star is Wormwood.

Jesus said that one of the signs of His coming is that the heavenly bodies will be shaken (Matt 24:29). Upon the sounds of two successive trumpets, two space objects will hit earth one after another. The second space object named Wormwood is the more powerful one that will release the army of God from the Abyss. It will also cover the earth with thick clouds darkening the skies (Rev 9:1-2). Read Greenland: The Camp of God's Army - Part 2 for more on this "star."

  1. Total darkness and extremely cold winter

Matt 24:29
29 "Immediately after the distress of those days "'the sun will be darkened, and the moon will not give its light; the stars will fall from the sky, and the heavenly bodies will be shaken.'

Total darkness is apparently caused by the two space objects hitting the earth as discussed earlier. It will also cause an unprecedented cold winter as mentioned by Jesus Christ.

Matt 24:20
20 Pray that your flight will not take place in winter or on the Sabbath.

The Sabbath mentioned here is the seventh year of the last seven years of Daniel, the Day of the Lord. It is far better for us that our flight will take place during the first six years or within the tribulation period than to be overtaken by the Lord's day, the day of His vengeance.

  1. The chosen flown to the desert

Rev 12:13-14
14 The woman was given the two wings of a great eagle, so that she might fly to the place prepared for her in the desert, where she would be taken care of for a time, times and half a time, out of the serpent's reach.

  1. The burning of the elements, ten plagues

  1. Fire (Rev 9:17–20)

  2. Smoke (Rev 9:17–20)

  3. Sulfur (Rev 9:17–20)

  4. Boils and sores (Rev 16:2)

  5. Sea turning into blood (Rev 16:3)

  6. Rivers and springs of water also turn into blood (Rev 16:4)

  7. The sun scorches people with fire (Rev 16:8)

  8. Darkness, painful sores (Rev 16:10)

  9. The Euphrates River dries up, three evil spirits gather kings of the earth for the Battle of Armageddon (Rev 16:12–16)

  10. Great earthquake, islands, and mountains disappear, city of Babylon splits into three, cities collapse, hails weighing about 100 pounds each rained from heaven (Rev 16: 17–21)

After the cold winter, the earth will burn and so with many plagues will strike the sinners, not meant to kill but for them to repent (Rev 9: 20-21; 16:11). There will be great devastation of the earth and death among the sinners after they have not repented of their sins.

  1. All the chosen will march to Israel in a Great Exodus

Ezek 11:17
17 "Therefore say: 'This is what the Sovereign LORD says: I will gather you from the nations and bring you back from the countries where you have been scattered, and I will give you back the land of Israel again.'

This is to fulfill numerous prophecies about the homecoming of Israel to restore the lost kingdom. Please read also The Last Days Exodus.

  1. The Second Coming of Jesus

Mark 13:26-27
26 "At that time men will see the Son of Man coming in clouds with great power and glory. 27 And he will send his angels and gather his elect from the four winds, from the ends of the earth to the ends of the heavens.

This is the beginning of the finale of the Day of the Lord. This is the time and only time that Jesus Christ will appear to mankind. By this time, the survivors of the last days will be very few. This is also the time of the harvest of the earth and only the good fruits will be remain. The Second Coming will come in a surprise.

2 Pet 3:10–12
10 But the day of the Lord will come like a thief. The heavens will disappear with a roar; the elements will be destroyed by fire, and the earth and everything done in it will be laid bare.

11 Since everything will be destroyed in this way, what kind of people ought you to be? You ought to live holy and godly lives 12 as you look forward to the day of God and speed its coming. That day will bring about the destruction of the heavens by fire, and the elements will melt in the heat.

  1. The dead in Christ will rise

1 Thess 4:16
16 For the Lord himself will come down from heaven, with a loud command, with the voice of the archangel and with the trumpet call of God, and the dead in Christ will rise first.

When Jesus Christ sends His angels to harvest the earth or gather the elect, He will raise from the dead those who have died faithful. This was His promise to His apostles when He said,

John 6:39-40
39 And this is the will of him who sent me, that I shall lose none of all that he has given me, but raise them up at the last day . 40 For my Father's will is that everyone who looks to the Son and believes in him shall have eternal life, and I will raise him up at the last day ."

Read also John 6:44, 54. Then the all elect who are now gathered in Jerusalem will be caught up with Jesus in the air to meet Him (1 Thess 4:17). Then those who are left on the ground are either the sinners or those who have not known the Lord. They are the people who followed them in the exodus of the saints towards Jerusalem to destroy them. But Jesus will finally exact His vengeance on the enemies in full view of all nations who have gathered together in the place called Armageddon.

  1. The Battle of Armageddon - Gog and Magog

Rev 16:16
16 Then they gathered the kings together to the place that in Hebrew is called Armageddon.

Rev 19:19-20
19 Then I saw the beast and the kings of the earth and their armies gathered together to make war against the rider on the horse and his army. 20 But the beast was captured, and with him the false prophet who had performed the miraculous signs on his behalf.

  1. Judgment in the Valley of Decision

Joel 3:12-14
12'Let the nations be roused; let them advance into the Valley of Jehoshaphat, for there I will sit to judge all the nations on every side. 13 Swing the sickle, for the harvest is ripe. Come, trample the grapes, for the winepress is full and the vats overflow — so great is their wickedness!'

14 Multitudes, multitudes in the valley of decision! For the day of the LORD is near in the valley of decision.

This is the first judgment. This judgment is for those who are still alive and are still on the ground. Some will be saved and pass the judgment as mentioned in Isaiah 66:19-21. The rest are destroyed like separating and burning the weeds. The rest of the dead will not be judged until the Millennium or a thousand years of the King Jesus Christ's reign on earth is over (Rev 20:5).

After the judgment, the Millennium reign of Christ on earth will begin. From the few survivors of the tribulation and Day of the Lord, the earth will be repopulated. The whole earth will be cleaned up and replenished with everything that was lost. This is the true fulfillment of God's promised to Abraham and the patriarchs. That will be the time that God will establish a new covenant with man. He will replace the heart of stone with a heart of flesh (Ezek 11:19; 36:26). Then the earth shall be full of knowledge of the Lord as the waters cover the sea (Isa 11:9; Hab 2:14). For more on the Millennium, please read the topic, The Millennium. For complete details, read Chapter 6 of the book.

These are just some of the highlights of the events that are happening in the Day of the Lord. Of course, there are lots more events that are well detailed in the Scriptures. But what is important is to get ready, we are close to the last days. Let us take heed and be prepared to meet our God. Make sure we are doing His commissioned work for us until He comes for He will come when we least expect.

In order for you to get saved and become a Christian please follow these simple steps.
