A Lament for Pharaoh

The Book of Ezekiel prophesied about the last days Pharaoh of the modern Egypt. Ezekiel's prophecies are mostly about the last days and the prophecy on the modern pharaoh is just one of his very eye-opening prophecies. But Bible students are surprised why should there be a pharaoh reigning in the last days. Is this concerning the Egypt in the Middle East who is about to revert back to the ancient form of government? We thought the age of Egyptian dynasties or the reigns of pharaohs are gone. Here we will piece together how the Bible has been very accurate and infallible.

Let us check the Ezekiel prophecy on the lament for Pharaoh in Ezek 32: 2-10 with emphasis mine--

Ezek 32:2-10 (NIV)
"'You are like a lion among the nations; you are like a monster in the seas thrashing about in your streams, churning the water with your feet and muddying the streams.

3 "'This is what the Sovereign LORD says:

"'With a great throng of people I will cast my net over you, and they will haul you up in my net. 4 I will throw you on the land
and hurl you on the open field. I will let all the birds of the air settle on you and all the beasts of the earth gorge themselves on you. 5 I will spread your flesh on the mountains and fill the valleys with your remains. 6 I will drench the land with your flowing blood
all the way to the mountains, and the ravines will be filled with your flesh.

7 When I snuff you out, I will cover the heavens and darken their stars; I will cover the sun with a cloud, and the moon will not give its light. 8 All the shining lights in the heavens I will darken over you; I will bring darkness over your land, declares the Sovereign LORD.

9 I will trouble the hearts of many peoples when I bring about your destruction among the nations, among lands you have not known. 10 I will cause many peoples to be appalled at you, and their kings will shudder with horror because of you when I brandish my sword before them.

Many will say, "But this is not a prophecy. This is history recording what had happened to Egypt when it was conquered by King Nebuchadnezzar of Babylon." You are partly right. And yet read verses 7 and 8. These verses tell us about the moon not giving its light and the sun and stars darkened. This is to distinguish it from the ancient fall of Egypt. One indication of the Second coming of Jesus Christ is darkness and gloom. The Second Coming is what we call the Day of the Lord as I emphasized in the following passages:

...and the sky rolled up like a scroll; (Isa 34:4; Rev 6:14). This is one of the signs of the Lord's Second Coming.

Isa 34:2,4
2The LORD is angry with all nations; his wrath is upon all their armies... 4 All the stars of the heavens will be dissolved and the sky rolled up like a scroll; all the starry host will fall like withered leaves from the vine, like shriveled figs from the fig tree.

Joel 2:31
31 The sun will be turned to darkness and the moon to blood before the coming of the great and dreadful day of the LORD.

Also in Amos 5:18
8 Woe to you who long for the day of the LORD! Why do you long for the day of the LORD? That day will be darkness , not light.

Zeph 1:15-16
Listen! The cry on the day of the LORD will be bitter, the shouting of the warrior there. 15 That day will be a day of wrath, a day of distress and anguish, a day of trouble and ruin, a day of darkness and gloom, a day of clouds and blackness, a day of trumpet and battle cry against the fortified cities and against the corner towers.

Also in Matt 24:29-31
29 "Immediately after the distress of those days "'the sun will be darkened, and the moon will not give its light; the stars will fall from the sky, and the heavenly bodies will be shaken.' At that time the sign of the Son of Man will appear in the sky, and all the nations of the earth will mourn. They will see the Son of Man coming on the clouds of the sky, with power and great glory."

All the above verses indicate the Second Coming, the Day of the Lord. Whenever we see in the prophecies about global darkness and about the sun or moon not giving their light, the day of the Lord, these simply tell us they are not history but prophecies, only to happen in the last days because the phenomenon in the skies did not yet happen in the past.

Another thing we need to understand in prophecies is the repetition of history. I mentioned that you are partly right if you say this lament for pharaoh is history since it did happened in the past that King Nebuchadnezzar indeed attacked Egypt. Read Ezek 29:19–20.

However, there is a difference between then and in the last days. God will repeat history in the last seven years as it was written:

Dan 9:27
He will confirm a covenant with many for one ‘seven.’

To confirm is to prove, to attest to a fact. God will repeat history to confirm that His written covenant (Bible), particularly the Old Covenant (Old Testament) is true. Read Confirm the Covenant - History to Repeat Itself for more details. That is why we are reading the prophecies as if we are reading history. This is simply because history will be repeated. Take note about Ezekiel prophecy on the fall of Egypt which is also occurring during the days of the clouds and gloom indicating the last days, the Day of the Lord:

Ezek 30:2-6
"'Wail and say, "Alas for that day!" 3 For the day is near, the day of the LORD is near — a day of clouds, a time of doom for the nations.

4 A sword will come against Egypt, and anguish will come upon Cush. When the slain fall in Egypt, her wealth will be carried away and her foundations torn down. 5 Cush and Put, Lydia and all Arabia, Libya and the people of the covenant land will fall by the sword along with Egypt.

6 "'This is what the LORD says:
"'The allies of Egypt will fall and her proud strength will fail. From Migdol to Aswan they will fall by the sword within her, declares the Sovereign LORD.

Then the next question will come up? "Why is such a big deal of prophecies on Egypt and about a non-existent pharaoh?" That is good question. Knowing the answer to this will open our eyes about the great accuracy of the Bible.

If we are thinking that these prophecies are intended on the Egypt that we know today-- the Egypt in Middle East, then we are unfortunately wrong. That Egypt is currently still in disarray as a result of the Arab Spring. The Egypt that is prophesied is a big, great nation, as we also notice is very rich (Ezek 30:4 and Dan 11:43), powerful with many allies (Ezek 30:6). Since we are close to the last days, it is very likely that we are looking at the wrong Egypt today.

The Egypt of the last days is the descendant of Manasseh, the son of Joseph, one of the tribes of Israel. Joseph married an Egyptian wife, Asenath. Naturally, their offspring will be half Egyptians and Manasseh being the firstborn become the heir of his father's throne who was then the second highest Egyptian official next only to the pharaoh himself. Now Manasseh is the United States, the modern Egypt. It is important to understand this to be able to understand also the other prophecies as well. read The Real Roots of America.

A giant obelisk rises high over the horizon of Washington DC.  This is God's way of telling us that the modern Egypt is the USA. Obelisk construction is an ancient practice that was originated in old Egypt and is widely used in their memorials for the dead pharaoh and in their worship of their gods.

Now the lament for the pharaoh pertains to America's coming ruler, as the Bible portrays him as a cruel, fierce king, the ruler of all nations.

Isa 19:4
4 I will hand the Egyptians over to the power of a cruel master, and a fierce king will rule over them," declares the Lord, the LORD Almighty.

Ezek 31:10-12
10 "'Therefore this is what the Sovereign LORD says: Because it [Egypt] towered on high, lifting its top above the thick foliage, and because it was proud of its height, 11 I handed it over to the ruler of the nations, for him to deal with according to its wickedness. I cast it aside...

This ruler is no other than the Antichrist. Again please read The Antichrist and the Number "666". That coming ruler is the great Pharaoh who will be ruling over America and all the world. Notice that America is between two oceans, the Pacific and the Atlantic Oceans. With this in mind, the prophecy is also very accurate geographically:

Dan 11:45
45 He will pitch his royal tents between the seas at the beautiful holy mountain.

Mountain is a symbol for a big, powerful nation. It is holy and beautiful because of the holy blessings and promises of God to patriarchs Abraham, Isaac, Jacob and to Joseph and his sons, Ephraim and Manasseh.

The Antichrist who is actually Satan living in the coming resurrected "Assyrian king" will sit in the modern "Tyre and Sidon" as prophesied in Ezek 28. This modern ports of Tyre and Sidon are now the ports of New York and New Jersey. The names becomes symbolic. Read New York City: The Throne of the Antichrist.

Now notice Ezek 31:10-12 already mentioned above. The reason why the modern Egypt was handed over to the Antichrist or last days Pharaoh is because of her pride, because she towered on high. Read Weapons or God? for more on American might and world leadership. That prophecy is now fulfilled in America before our eyes-- America is the most powerful nation on earth. Just like in history, the modern Egypt will be attacked by modern Babylonians, by the same people of the ancient Babylon. Read Ezek 32:11-15. That ancient Babylon will rise again to fulfill the prophecies for her to attack the modern Egypt and eventually to the downfall of Babylon as well.

Rev 18:2
2 With a mighty voice he shouted:
"Fallen! Fallen is Babylon the Great! She has become a home for demons and a haunt for every evil spirit, a haunt for every unclean and detestable bird.

Continue watching the news around us. This year 2012 will have many surprises for us particularly in Middle East. The most powerful nations on earth, the players of major events dictates where the world is going to. If we have understanding, we shall see that each of these nations are actually the modern day descendants of the chosen nation of God. All of them in their own roles still continuing with their enmity against their old biblical enemies. Their old roles will be replayed exactly as prophesied, in the same pattern as they already happened in the past and recorded in the Scriptures.

God is in total control dealing with every nation, great and small and the whole world as a whole. He is a great and awesome God. And yet He is also dealing with each individual person, surely no less than how He deals with nations. He wants all to be saved and be partakers of His glory that is to come. The prophecies are written for us to acknowledge His presence, that He is the only true and living God. Respond to His invitation and everything else will come to our understanding.
