The Prophet Micah - Part 1

The Book of Micah is among my richest sources of end time prophecies. The name Micah means "Who is like Yahweh?" Prophet Micah prophesied during the reigns of Jotham, Ahaz, and Hezekiah, kings of Judah (Mic 1:1). That was during the times that Assyria had already conquered the northern House of Israel and then King Sennacherib threatened the City of Jerusalem later in the southern House of Judah. Therefore, Micah was sent by God to bring warning to the House of Judah, in the same way the other prophets of his time did. Prophets, like the earlier ones we already covered were sent primarily for this purpose.

However, the warnings were not only intended to the people of those times. It also counsels to all peoples. Notice in verse 2:

Mic 1:2
Hear, O peoples, all of you, listen, O earth and all who are in it, that the Sovereign LORD may witness against you, the Lord from his holy temple.

Not only does his prophecies spread forth throughout the world but also it spans up to the end of times. In her last two passages, he remembered God's promises to the patriarchs:

Mic 7:19-20
19 You will again have compassion on us; you will tread our sins underfoot and hurl all our iniquities into the depths of the sea. 20 You will be true to Jacob, and show mercy to Abraham, as you pledged on oath to our fathers in days long ago.

God's pledge to Abraham is not yet fulfilled to its fullest until the Millennium age and beyond. And so most of his prophecies are yet to happen. Like the other prophets of his time, he warned and gave hope. But that great hope shall not come until all things are accomplished. For example, the prophecy of Micah about Israel's deliverance is not fulfilled yet. Read Mic 5:5-6--

When the Assyrian invades our land [Israel] and marches through our fortresses, we will raise against him seven shepherds, even eight leaders of men. 6 They will rule the land of Assyria with the sword, the land of Nimrod with drawn sword. He will deliver us from the Assyrian when he invades our land and marches into our borders.

If we are familiar with secular and biblical ancient histories, we know for sure that Israel did not overcome Assyria and never in the past that they ruled over them. Instead Israel suffered a humiliating defeat, the Hebrews got vanished from their land. Since then, they have been called the Ten Lost Tribes of Israel. Read Israel, The Divided House for more details.

We should understand as we already learned that the prophets were prophesying about the last days Israel, our time and the fulfilments are coming very soon. With these in mind, let us study the details of his prophecies.

God's judgment against his own nations

Mica's prophecies starts immediately about the Second Coming of the Lord Jesus Christ.
The Day of the Lord will be like a furnace melting the earth to become like wax.

Mic 1:3-5
3 Look! The LORD is coming from his dwelling place; he comes down and treads the high places of the earth. 4 The mountains melt beneath him and the valleys split apart, like wax before the fire, like water rushing down a slope. 5 All this is because of Jacob's transgression, because of the sins of the house of Israel. What is Jacob's transgression? Is it not Samaria? What is Judah's high place? Is it not Jerusalem?

The Lord's Second Coming was also described by Peter the apostle as fire melting the elements, everything will be laid bare (2 Pet 3:10-12).

Obviously, Micah's prophecy was talking about the last days transgression of His people and the Day of the Lord. Isa 10: 5-6 tells us that God uses the king of Assyria, the soon to be Antichrist to punish His nation, but God's punishment which is by fire shall be more severe tearing down both Assyria and His people who refuse to repent. Check Confirm the Covenant - History to Repeat Itself to learn about the succession of future wars. Many people will burn like thornbushes (Isa 33:12). But during those times, God will protect His elect.

Isa 43:2
2 When you pass through the waters, I will be with you; and when you pass through the rivers, they will not sweep over you. When you walk through the fire, you will not be burned; the flames will not set you ablaze.

Read The Last Days Exodus to learn about God's plan of rescuing the elect in the last days. Unlike the first destruction of the earth by flood in the times of Noah, the second destruction is more complete. Fire will destroy all idols and images, the reasons why God was forgotten. Everything that is put up by man will be destroyed making even the city of Samaria bare, molten to become like a rubble fit for planting vineyards (Mic 1:6-7). Samaria is used to symbolize the modern cities of Israel, Ephraim and Manasseh. Jerusalem is still the present city of Judah, we now call Israel, the only Israel we know.

Thereby, everyone is enjoined to weep and wail (Mic 1:8-16). The incurable disease that inflicted Israel will spread to Judah and therefore the Lord will bring also disaster to them. We know that Israel fell in the hands of the Assyrians and Judah, under King Nebuchadnezzar of Babylon. It will happen the same way in the coming wars and that is because of the same sins the chosen people committed in the past. They all turn as prostitutes. History will repeat itself.

God's nation will be populated by foreigners

When the people of Israel were taken away from their land, the Assyrians brought foreigners to repopulate Israel.

2 Kings 17:23-24
23 until the LORD removed them [Israel] from his presence, as he had warned through all his servants the prophets. So the people of Israel were taken from their homeland into exile in Assyria, and they are still there. 24 The king of Assyria brought people from Babylon, Cuthah, Avva, Hamath and Sepharvaim and settled them in the towns of Samaria to replace the Israelites. They took over Samaria and lived in its towns.

The same will happen to Europe in the last days. After those nations have fallen under the modern Assyrians, the people will be driven out. They will be replaced by the people traitor to them. Their possessions seized and distributed to the invaders.

Mic 2:3-5
"I am planning disaster against this people [Israel], from which you cannot save yourselves. You will no longer walk proudly, for it will be a time of calamity. 4 In that day men will ridicule you; they will taunt you with this mournful song: 'We are utterly ruined; my people's possession is divided up. He takes it from me! He assigns our fields to traitors.'" 5 Therefore you will have no one in the assembly of the LORD to divide the land by lot.

Israel's leaders to side with the enemy

Until they fall, no one among the "prophets" of God can accept that a disaster shall come ahead. These false prophets can not accept the truth that God is against them.
The European Union Parliament in Strasbourg designed as the unfinished Tower of Babel depicts the EU's support of one world government, one tongue.

Mic 2:6-7
6 "Do not prophesy," their prophets say. "Do not prophesy about these things; disgrace will not overtake us." 7 Should it be said, O house of Jacob: "Is the Spirit of the LORD angry? Does he do such things?"

Many of those who have read and heard about my topics on the coming disasters disagree and say, 'No, God is too good to bring disaster. There is no such a thing like God's anger bringing destruction.' Now, I will let Micah answer that. Our sins have piled up high to heaven. When God destroyed Israel, their most common sin was worshipping idols. Well, at least they still believe in god. Nowadays, people do not even believe that God exist. Now we have abortion, one in two couples ends in divorce, strange spirits are universally recognized, and so on. How can He be more merciful to us?

Not only that. The leaders of modern Israel have become the enemy of the people. The leaders will side with the enemy taking away the people's possession and all inheritance to be given to strangers.

Mic 2:8-9
8 Lately my people have risen up like an enemy. You strip off the rich robe from those who pass by without a care, like men returning from battle. 9 You drive the women of my people from their pleasant homes. You take away my blessing from their children forever.

We will know when the end is near once Europe is in famine and Assyria (Iraq) start her military campaign against Europe. Three nations will fall first and then the whole of EU, Israel, then the US and the whole world will follow suit in quick succession.

The last verse is very important for us to remember. Note the phrase "my blessing from their children forever." God is talking now of His blessing to Abraham. That blessing was continually passed on to Abraham's descendants even after they were expelled by the Assyrians and Babylonians because of their sins. They found a new home in Europe and after an appointed time, they progressed because God remembered His promise to Abraham. Because of sin, their newfound home will be cursed anew finally removing all God's blessing to their possessions. In the last days, their leaders will side with the enemy, the Antichrist, helping  him to divide the land for the invaders.

By that time U.S.A. will become isolated and her alliance with Europe shattered (Dan 7:4), wings (Manasseh, the eagle) torn off from the lion, Ephraim. The EU by the way has been supporting a one world government. And because of the assistance of European leaders (who are actually the Ten Horns of the Beast), they will be rewarded by giving them authority to rule the ten regions of the world.

Dan 11:39
He will make them [kings of Europe] rulers over many people and will distribute the land at a price.

Rev 17:13
13 They [ten horns] have one purpose and will give their power and authority to the beast.

Europeans and allies will escape to the U.S.A.
In the last days, Europeans and the Allies will escape the burning Europe and find refuge in America, the modern Egypt. However, the Bible says, Egypt (U.S.A.) will not escape from war.

The land to be distributed will be the ten regions of the world. It will happen shortly before the Second Coming of the Lord Jesus Christ. Also check Rev 17:12-13 which about the ten kings who will rule with the Antichrist for a brief period. To understand more on these ten kings, please read Who Are the Ten Horns of the Beast? - Part 1 and Part 2. These kings are the same people mentioned by Micah who stripped their own people of their possessions. The Antichrist will certainly find support in them. During those times, people of Europe will be scattered. Some will go to Egypt (Hos 8:13; 9:3; 11:5), Assyria rules over them. They will escape Europe as if it were a house on fire. They will eventually find refuge in America. Let us complete the picture by taking this prophecy from prophet Hosea.

Hos 11:5
5 "Will they not return to Egypt and will not Assyria rule over them because they refuse to repent?

Egypt is now the U.S.A., the modern Egypt. This is again a repeat of history. They will "return" since Israel had been there already before until Moses brought them out. In the last days, many will escape the coming famine (Amos 4:6-8) and will have mass exodus to the U.S.A., the last days Egypt. For the same reason as before, the tribes of Israel went to Egypt because of the famine in Canaan. The Confirmation of the Covenant is aimed at repeating all the highlights of Israel's history in the last seven years. Read this article about the coming world famine. Obviously, Assyria will take advantage of the coming great famine in Europe to invade the land. It is the very same way that the people of Israel suffered starvation because of the crippling three-year siege of King Shalmaneser of Assyria that made their defeat easier. The past is simply the pattern of the events of the future.

The Deliverance of Israel

In the last days, the people of modern Israel will again be scattered, driven away from their newfound homeland. But after God's anger against them will subside, He promised deliverance.

Mic 2:12-13
12 "I will surely gather all of you, O Jacob; I will surely bring together the remnant of Israel. I will bring them together like sheep in a pen, like a flock in its pasture; the place will throng with people. 13 One who breaks open the way will go up before them; they will break through the gate and go out. Their king will pass through before them, the LORD at their head."

The Lord is now speaking about the Great Exodus when He will gather His elect from the modern Egypt and from everywhere they were scattered because of their enemies. He will lead them toward the Promised Land as He did when they came out of Egypt. The Lord will be at their head like a pillar of cloud by day and pillar of fire by night.

We will continue with our study of the Book of Micah next time.
